PAT Moderation Export

Export comprehensive moderation packages for offline PAT assessment review and moderation.

This feature requires Teacher role permissions and an active PAT assessment with marked submissions.

Overview

The PAT Moderation Export feature allows you to:

  • Download complete assessment packages for offline moderation
  • Review marked submissions with synchronized navigation
  • Make moderation adjustments to scores
  • Generate professional moderation reports

Exporting a Moderation Package

Step 1: Navigate to Assignments

  1. Click Assignments in the main navigation
  2. Select your PAT assessment
  3. Click the Moderation tab

Step 2: Select Learners

  1. Choose specific learners or select all
  2. Only learners with marked submissions will be included
  3. Click Export Moderation Package

Step 3: Download Package

The system will:

  • Compile all marked submissions (latest version only)
  • Generate interactive HTML viewer
  • Create moderation interface
  • Package everything into a ZIP file
**New in v2.5.0**: Only the latest marked submission per phase is included, eliminating confusion about multiple versions.

Using the Moderation Interface

Interface Layout

The moderation interface consists of two main panels:

Left Panel: Submission Documents

  • Sorted dropdown showing Phase 1-4 documents in order
  • PDF viewer for reviewing submissions
  • Clear labeling of phase and assignment

Right Panel: Assessment Details

  • Collapsible summary with learner information
  • Phase navigation (vertical sidebar on desktop, tabs on mobile)
  • Detailed rubric with editable scores
  • Moderation notes section

Key Features

1. Coordinated Navigation 🔄

When you select a PDF document, the assessment automatically switches to the corresponding phase.

How it works:

  • Select Phase_1_Project_Specifications.pdf → Phase 1 assessment appears
  • Navigate to Phase 2 in right panel → PDF updates to Phase 2 document
  • Visual highlight shows the connection

2. Auto-Collapse Summary 📊

The learner summary header intelligently manages screen space:

  • Starts expanded: See all learner details
  • Auto-collapses on scroll: Maximizes workspace when reviewing
  • Click arrow to toggle: Manual control always available

3. Keyboard Navigation ⌨️

Efficient navigation shortcuts:

Making Moderation Changes

Editing Scores

  1. Click on any score to edit
  2. Enter new value
  3. Add moderation note (optional but recommended)
  4. Changes are highlighted and tracked
Original Score: 85 Moderated Score: 90 Note: "Excellent code structure not fully credited"

Adding Moderation Notes

Each phase has a dedicated notes section:

  1. Scroll to bottom of phase assessment
  2. Enter notes in text area
  3. Notes are saved automatically

Saving Changes

Always save your changes before closing the moderation package.
  1. Click Save Changes button in toolbar
  2. Changes are stored in browser
  3. When finished with all learners:
    • Click Save All Changes to Files
    • Follow instructions to update package
    • Re-ZIP and import to Caliper

File Management

Understanding File Selection

What's Included:

  • ✅ Latest marked submission per phase
  • ✅ Clean, descriptive filenames
  • ✅ Proper phase ordering

File Naming Convention:

Phase_[Number]_[PhaseName]_[OriginalFilename].pdf

Example:

Phase_1_Project_Specifications_learner_submission.pdf
Phase_2_System_Design_Documentation_final.pdf

No Version Confusion

The system automatically selects the most recent marked submission for each phase, eliminating confusion about multiple versions.

Best Practices

Preparation

  1. Ensure all submissions are marked before export
  2. Review rubrics for accuracy
  3. Check learner enrollment

During Moderation

  1. Use keyboard shortcuts for efficiency
  2. Add detailed moderation notes
  3. Save changes frequently
  4. Review all phases systematically

After Moderation

  1. Save all changes to files
  2. Keep backup of original package
  3. Import moderated package promptly
  4. Verify changes were applied

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

- Ensure submissions are marked (status = 'marked') - Check that PAT phases have linked assignments - Verify learner has submitted work
- Check browser compatibility (Chrome, Firefox, Edge recommended) - Ensure JavaScript is enabled - Try refreshing the page
- Click Save Changes button explicitly - Check browser localStorage is enabled - Don't clear browser data before completing
